New Delhi, Dec 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in remembering the security personnel who lost their lives while defending Parliament in the 2001 terror attack, with leaders cutting across party lines joining the tribute on Saturday.

Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and several other senior parliamentarians from both the NDA and the opposition paid their respects.

The homage recalled the deadly incident of December 13, 2001, when five terrorists linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed breached the Parliament complex in New Delhi and fired indiscriminately.

The attack occurred nearly 40 minutes after the House was adjourned, at a time when around 100 MPs were still inside the building.

14 people, including members of the security forces and a civilian, were killed in the assault, which was thwarted by the personnel who laid down their lives to protect the country’s highest legislative institution.
