PM Modi unveils ₹60,000-crore development projects in Odisha’s Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda, Sept 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a series of development projects worth over ₹60,000 crore in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district, covering telecom, railways, healthcare, higher education, skill development and rural housing.

He was joined at the event by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati.

A major highlight was the commissioning of more than 97,500 indigenously built 4G mobile towers, including over 92,600 sites by BSNL.

The network, largely solar-powered, will provide connectivity to around 26,700 remote and border villages, benefitting nearly 20 lakh people and creating India’s largest cluster of green telecom sites.

In the railways sector, the Prime Minister dedicated key projects such as the doubling of the Koraput-Baiguda and Manabar-Koraput-Gorapur lines, laid the foundation for the Sambalpur-Sarla rail flyover, and flagged off the Amrit Bharat Express between Berhampur and Surat, aimed at improving passenger comfort, freight movement and regional trade.

Healthcare facilities also received a boost with foundation stones laid for the transformation of MKCG Medical College in Berhampur and VIMSAR in Sambalpur into super-speciality hospitals, equipped with expanded beds, trauma care, maternal and child health units, and dental colleges.

He also laid the foundation stone for the expansion of eight IITs, which will create capacity for 10,000 new students over the next four years, alongside state initiatives to strengthen technical education and skill development in Odisha.
