THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

New Delhi, July 10: The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), one of India’s largest and most prominent public sector undertakings under the Ministry of Steel, has appointed Pranoy Roy as an Independent Director on its Board. The appointment was formalized on July 8, 2025, following a nomination from the Government of India dated July 3, 2025.

Roy will serve on the SAIL Board for a term of three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Appointment Confirmed in Regulatory Filings

In a formal filing with both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE), SAIL confirmed that Roy meets all eligibility requirements and is not under any disqualification from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) or other regulatory authorities. The appointment has been made in accordance with Regulation 30 of SEBI’s Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (LODR).

This strategic appointment aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the leadership and governance frameworks in major public sector enterprises.

About Pranoy Roy: Legal Strategist and Social Contributor

With over 25 years of experience in legal and tax advisory, Roy, aged around 54, brings with him a deep understanding of corporate law, NGO compliance, FCRA regulations, CSR policy, and income tax.

He holds degrees in Commerce (B.Com) and Law (LLB) and has been a trusted consultant to corporates and non-profits across the country. His guidance in FCRA registration, CSR implementation, and income tax scrutiny has proven invaluable for organizations navigating India’s complex legal landscape.

In addition to his professional credentials, Roy is also recognized for his social work, particularly in areas of community development, legal literacy, and capacity building at the grassroots level. His reputation for integrity, strategic insight, and a hands-on approach has earned him respect in both the corporate and development sectors.

Strengthening Governance at a Crucial Time

The appointment comes at a time when corporate governance, compliance, and transparency are under increasing scrutiny across public sector enterprises. SAIL, a Maharatna company, plays a critical role in India’s steel industry and broader infrastructure growth. With Roy’s background, the Board is expected to gain valuable oversight in areas related to legal compliance, CSR obligations, and regulatory integrity.
