Dhanbad, Dec 3: Dr. P. K. Misra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, urged IIT ISM Dhanbad to advance research in critical minerals, artificial intelligence, sustainability, and public-purpose technologies in the national interest.
IIT ISM a National Asset: Dr Misra
Addressing the Centenary Foundation Week of IIT ISM as the chief guest, Dr Mishra described the institution as a national asset that has strengthened the country’s capabilities in mining, technology and human capital for a century.
He praised the institute’s contribution to scientific excellence and highlighted the need for women-led development, inclusivity and environmentally responsible innovation.

“I am impressed by the institute’s innovation ecosystem and hope that IIT (ISM)’s faculty, students and alumni will play a defining role in shaping the nation’s technological future,” Dr Misra said.
Research Crucial for Viksit Bharat @ 2047
Linking IIT (ISM)’s next century to India’s roadmap for Viksit Bharat @ 2047, the Principal Secretary stressed the importance of strengthening research on critical minerals, AI, sustainability and technologies meant for public good.
Guest of Honour Praises IIT ISM’s Transformation
Guest of honour, MNIT Jaipur Director Prof. N. P. Padhy, praised IIT (ISM)’s remarkable transformation, noting that very few institutions in India embody such a deep legacy of national impact. He appreciated the institute’s research momentum, innovation culture and global linkages.
UK–India Collaboration Announced
British Deputy High Commissioner Andrew Alexander Fleming also attended the event and expressed delight at being part of the centenary celebrations.
He inaugurated the TEXMiN collaboration with UK-based Geotech to establish a digitization lab and described the partnership as a reflection of the UK–India Vision 2035.
Leadership Extends Warm Welcome
IIT ISM Director Prof. Sukumar Mishra welcomed the guests and said the centenary marks not only a celebration but also an affirmation of the institute’s mission.
