Prof. Rajni Kant appointed Vice Chancellor of Usha Martin University, Ranchi

RANCHI, July 17: Usha Martin University has appointed eminent academician Prof. Rajni Kant, FRSC, as its new Vice Chancellor. A distinguished Professor of Physics from the University of Jammu, Prof. Rajni Kant brings more than 37 years of teaching experience, over 42 years of research expertise, and nearly 30 years of academic leadership, making him one of India’s most accomplished higher education administrators.

An internationally recognized expert in Condensed Matter Physics and X-ray Crystallography, Prof. Rajni Kant has built an exceptional career in scientific research, university administration, and academic excellence. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Jammu and later completed post-doctoral research at the University of Oxford as a DST-BOYSCAST Fellow. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), London, becoming the first academician from Jammu and Kashmir to receive this prestigious honour.

Over the course of his academic journey, Prof. Rajni Kant has supervised 32 Ph.D. scholars and 51 M.Phil. scholars while publishing more than 500 research papers in reputed national and international journals. His contributions to science include the successful completion of 18 nationally funded research projects, alongside receiving eight national and four international awards for excellence in research and higher education.

His academic collaborations and invited engagements have taken him to several world-renowned institutions, including the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, BARC Mumbai, IIT Madras, and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, reinforcing his standing in the global scientific community.

Prof. Rajni Kant also brings extensive experience in university governance and institutional development. At the University of Jammu, he served in several key leadership positions, including Dean of Research Studies, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Dean of Colleges, Controller of Examinations, Director of Distance Education, Director of the UGC Academic Staff College, and Head of the Departments of Physics and Geology. Prior to joining Usha Martin University, he served as the Vice Chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University, Bhopal.
