Patna, July 9: The Mahagathbandhan on Wednesday called for a statewide bandh in Bihar to protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.

All alliance partners of the Mahagathbandhan, including the RJD, Congress, Left parties, VIP Party, and Pappu Yadav’s Jan Adhikar Party, participated in the protest.

As per the pre-scheduled plan, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav launched a protest march from the Income Tax Golambar. Accompanied by party workers, the march proceeded towards the Election Commission office.

CPI General Secretary D. Raja, CPIML leader Dipankar Bhattacharya, Bihar Congress president Rajesh Ram, and VIP chief Mukesh Sahni also joined the march.

Rahul Gandhi Attacks BJP, ECI

The police stopped the march near the Bihar Assembly. Addressing supporters there, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Maharashtra election was stolen and accused the BJP of attempting to do the same in Bihar.

“The people of Bihar will not allow their election to be stolen. The BJP must understand—this is Bihar, theft won’t work here. In Maharashtra, poor people’s votes were deleted while all new votes benefited the BJP,” he said.

He further added that the Constitution applies to the Election Commission too. “The Election Commission has forgotten its duty is to protect the Constitution, not work for a particular party. Its job is not to serve the BJP but to uphold constitutional values. The Election Commission is failing in its responsibilities,” he said.

Tejashwi Slams PM Modi and Nitish Kumar

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav alleged that poor voters’ names are being removed from the electoral rolls at the behest of PM Narendra Modi and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar.

“This bullying by Modi ji and Nitish ji will not be tolerated. Will two Gujaratis decide who can vote in Bihar and who cannot? These people are tampering with the Constitution. We won’t remain silent,” Tejashwi said.

Ahead of the bandh, Tejashwi also raised concerns over the law and order situation in the state. “There is no such thing as law and order in Bihar anymore. Criminal disorder has taken over. Nitish Kumar has been hijacked. Everyone knows what will happen to him after the election,” he remarked.
