Railway welfare body demands permanent RPF outpost at Tatanagar yard after engineer attack

THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK

Jamshedpur, July 29: The Railway Employees Welfare Association has demanded the immediate establishment of a permanent Railway Protection Force (RPF) outpost at Tatanagar’s Classification Yard following the brutal attack on a railway engineer, saying the incident has exposed serious security concerns for employees working in the yard.

Engineer attacked while returning from duty

Association president Manoj Mishra made the demand after visiting critically injured Section Engineer J. Karketta, who is undergoing treatment at Tata Main Hospital (TMH).

According to the association, Karketta was allegedly attacked by unidentified assailants on the night of July 28 while returning to his office after completing his B-shift duty at the Classification Yard. He sustained critical injuries and remains under treatment, with his condition stated to be serious.

Association seeks permanent RPF deployment

Mishra said the safety of railway employees is the responsibility of the railway administration and warned that rail operations could be affected if employees do not feel secure while performing their duties.

He urged the railway administration to provide a safe working environment, ensure the immediate arrest of those responsible for the attack and strengthen security arrangements to prevent similar incidents.

Speaking from the hospital, Mishra also held discussions with senior railway officials over the phone and pressed for the immediate establishment of a permanent RPF outpost at the Classification Yard.

Employees express concern over security

The association said the attack has triggered widespread concern among railway employees, many of whom now feel unsafe while working in the yard.

Mishra noted that the demand for a permanent RPF outpost at the Classification Yard has been pending for a long time but has not received a concrete response from the railway administration.

He alleged that the failure to address long-standing security concerns had now resulted in a serious attack on an employee while on duty.

Association to meet railway authorities

Warning that similar incidents could recur unless immediate corrective measures are taken, Mishra said the association would soon meet the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Chakradharpur Division and the General Manager of South Eastern Railway.

The association plans to press for a permanent RPF outpost at the Classification Yard, the speedy arrest of the attackers and enhanced security measures to ensure the safety of railway employees.
