Thiruvananthapuram, March 24: Rajeev Chandrasekhar, former Union Minister, was elected as the new president of the Kerala BJP on Monday.

The announcement was made by Prahlad Joshi, the party’s central observer, during the state council meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram.
Chandrasekhar, the sole nominee for the position, submitted two sets of nomination papers at the BJP headquarters on Sunday.

The meeting saw the presence of prominent state leaders, including outgoing president K Surendran and state in-charge Prakash Javadekar. Surendran officially handed over the party flag to Chandrasekhar on stage.

With over 20 years of political experience, Chandrasekhar, at 60, steps into the role with a wealth of expertise. His previous tenure includes serving as Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and Jal Shakti.
