Ranchi, September 28: Jharkhand has set its sights on developing Ranchi as a major information technology and emerging-technology hub, with Chief Minister Hemant Soren holding discussions with RMZ Infrastructure President Deepak Chhabria on the proposed Ranchi IT Park, Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and technology-driven investments.
Chhabria met Soren at the Chief Minister’s official residence on Kanke Road, where detailed discussions were held on developing a state-of-the-art IT Park, strengthening digital infrastructure and creating an industry-friendly ecosystem to attract technology and high-skill investments to Jharkhand.
20,000 Jobs in First Phase, 75,000 Target Over Three Years
Under the proposed plan, the Ranchi IT Park is targeted for launch by 2029, with an initial employment-generation target of around 20,000 jobs. The plan envisages expanding the employment potential to approximately 75,000 jobs over the following three years.
The proposed project is aimed at opening new opportunities for technical and high-skilled employment for Jharkhand’s youth while strengthening Ranchi’s position as a centre for IT, innovation and digital services.
An approximately 100-acre site near IIM Ranchi, the new Legislative Assembly complex and the Jharkhand High Court complex is being considered for development.
The proposed IT Park would include modern office facilities and digital infrastructure designed to attract global technology companies and institutions.
Focus on IT, AI, Semiconductors and GCCs
The discussions also covered investment opportunities in emerging sectors, including Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, manufacturing, nuclear energy and digital infrastructure.
The proposed establishment of Global Capability Centres (GCCs) was another key focus. Such centres could enable global companies to undertake high-skill functions in areas such as IT and AI services, digital technologies, semiconductor operations and manufacturing from Jharkhand.
Soren said the state government was working to build a robust and modern technology ecosystem while attracting private investment and creating high-skilled employment opportunities for local youth.
He stressed the need for closer government-industry collaboration to develop Ranchi as a prominent hub for IT, innovation and emerging technologies.
Jharkhand Team to Study Bengaluru’s IT Ecosystem
At the Chief Minister’s directive, a delegation from the Department of Information Technology and e-Governance is scheduled to visit Bengaluru, likely in October.
The delegation will study Bengaluru’s IT parks, technology ecosystem and GCC models, besides examining IT infrastructure, investment frameworks and facilities available to technology companies.
The findings will help in preparing an action plan for developing the proposed Ranchi IT Park and the broader technology ecosystem in Jharkhand.
RMZ Infrastructure Explores Investment Opportunities
RMZ Infrastructure expressed interest in exploring opportunities in Jharkhand in areas including state-of-the-art IT parks, digital infrastructure and future technologies.
The meeting also covered the state’s potential for technological and industrial investment and possible areas of collaboration.
Soren said the government was committed to creating better opportunities for young people within the state through modern technology, innovation and expansion of industrial activities, while positioning Ranchi as one of the country’s prominent IT hubs.
Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, Secretary of the Department of Information Technology and e-Governance Pooja Singhal, and Director of the Jharkhand Space Applications Centre (JSAC) Madhavi Mishra were present at the meeting.
