Additionally, the court instructed that a “No Entry Zone” be created around the catchment areas of these water bodies and fenced with barbed wire.

The High Court is hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking to stop encroachments near reservoirs.
The matter was heard by a bench headed by the Chief Justice, and the next hearing is scheduled for August 22.
The petition was filed to protect Ranchi’s Bada Talab and other nearby water sources from encroachment.

It alleges that large portions of land belonging to Bada Talab, Kanke Dam, and Dhurwa Dam have been illegally occupied, with multi-storey buildings being constructed on them. Such activities threaten the natural flow and existence of these reservoirs.
The PIL warns that failure to act promptly could lead to severe water shortages and environmental imbalance in the future.
