Republic Day honours: Gallantry and service medals awarded to 1,132 personnel across police, fire and various services

New Delhi, Jan 25: In commemoration of this year’s Republic Day, the Central Government on Thursday announced the selection of 1,132 members of the police, fire, home guard, civil defence, and correctional services for medals for gallantry and service.

Among the total of 1,132 individuals, accolades include two receiving the President’s Medal for Gallantry (PMG), 277 being honoured with Medals for Gallantry (GM), 102 awarded the President’s Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM), and 753 earning the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM).

Posthumously, two Head Constables from the Border Security Force, namely late Sanwala Ram Vishnoi and late Shishu Pal Singh, have been chosen to receive the President’s Medal for Gallantry (PMG) on this Republic Day.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) released a statement on Thursday saying, “On the occasion of the Republic Day, 2024, a total of 1132 personnel of Police, Fire Service, Home Guard and Civil Defence and Correctional Service have been awarded Gallantry and Service Medals.”

277 Gallantry Awards

Out of the 277 Gallantry Awards, recognition is being granted to 119 personnel for their brave deeds in areas affected by Left-wing extremism, 133 personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir region, and 25 personnel from other regions.

Among the 277 gallantry medals, 72 have been conferred upon J&K Police personnel, 18 to individuals from Maharashtra, 26 to those from Chhattisgarh, 23 to personnel from Jharkhand, 15 to individuals from Odisha, 8 to those from Delhi, 65 to CRPF personnel, 21 to SSB personnel, and the rest to individuals from other states, Union Territories (UTs), and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).

102 PSM

94 out of 102 President’s Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM) have been granted to Police Service, while four each have been awarded to Fire Service, civil guard and Home Guard Service.

753 MSM

Additionally, out of 753 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM), 667 have been conferred upon Police Service, 32 to Fire Service, and 27 each to Civil Defence and Home Guard Service, and Correctional Service.
