RIMS land scam: Marandi seeks suspension of Registrar, RMC and RERA officials

Ranchi, Dec. 15: BJP State President and Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Hemant Soren–led Jharkhand government, accusing it of institutional corruption in the illegal construction case at RIMS (Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences). While welcoming the Jharkhand High Court–ordered demolition, Marandi said the action alone is not enough and demanded accountability at the highest level.

He called for the immediate suspension of the Registrar, Circle Officer, concerned Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) officials, and RERA Jharkhand officers, holding them directly responsible for the illegal construction on government land.

“Why Should Innocent Flat Buyers Pay for Government Corruption?”

Marandi demanded that the state government provide immediate alternative accommodation to innocent flat buyers affected by the demolition and take responsibility for their bank loans, stating that the financial burden should be recovered from corrupt officials.

He questioned why common citizens should suffer because of what he termed the corrupt administrative system of the Hemant government, pointing out that even IAS officers have gone to jail during this regime for manipulating Army land records.

Registrar and Mutation Process Under Scanner

Raising serious questions about land registration, Marandi asked how flats built on RIMS land were registered if the land belonged to a government institution. He said it is the Registrar’s legal duty to verify land ownership before registration.

“In Jharkhand, a common citizen runs from office to office for years for land mutation, but in this case, mutation after registration happened effortlessly,” he said, alleging large-scale corruption and bribery.

Ranchi Municipal Corporation’s Role Questioned

The BJP leader also held the Ranchi Municipal Corporation equally responsible, questioning how building plans were approved when High Court orders had suspended plan approvals for years.

He pointed out that ordinary citizens are forced to submit dozens of documents and face repeated objections for building approvals, yet illegal construction at RIMS received clearance without hindrance.

RERA Jharkhand Failed Its Duty: Marandi

Marandi said the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA), Jharkhand, failed to protect homebuyers and neglected its statutory responsibilities, causing severe hardship to the general public.

“This is not merely an illegal construction issue; it is proof of deep-rooted corruption in the state government machinery,” he said.

Gumla Tragedy Shows Government’s Lack of Compassion

In a separate statement, Marandi slammed the state government over the death of a 19-year-old pregnant tribal woman, Sukri Kumari, and her child in Gumla district due to a lack of basic medical facilities.

He said the woman, from Jhalkapat village, had to be carried on a stretcher to the hospital because of poor road connectivity, leading to a fatal delay in treatment.

“Adivasi Community Facing Neglect Under Hemant Soren”

Marandi alleged that such incidents occur regularly in tribal-dominated areas of Jharkhand and reflect the government’s apathy. He said that despite being an Adivasi, Chief Minister Hemant Soren has failed the Adivasi community.

Calling the government “completely devoid of human compassion,” he demanded identification of vulnerable areas where patients are still carried on cots and stretchers, and immediate arrangement of proper roads, ambulances, and healthcare facilities.

Warning for Jharkhand’s Future

Marandi warned that if the deaths of pregnant women and patients due to government failure do not force elected representatives to introspect, the future of Jharkhand is in grave danger.

The press conference was attended by Media In-charge Shivpujan Pathak, spokesperson Rafia Naz, co-media in-charge Yogendra Pratap Singh, and Ashok Baraik.
