Rioters attack Hindu homes and temples across Bangladesh amidst rising violence

Dhaka, August 6: Violence and arson incidents have increased in Bangladesh. Rioters are attacking minority Hindus. The mob is deliberately setting fire to Hindu homes and looting shops.

After causing destruction, the rioters have also set fire to the ISKCON temple in Meherpur, Bangladesh and a Kali temple was vandalised and set on fire.

Houses and shops of Hindus vandalised, looted in 27 districts

According to a report by Bangladeshi media outlet The Daily Star, homes and shops belonging to Hindus have been looted in 27 districts. There have also been attacks on temples.

The report states that rioters broke into the home of Pradeep Chandra Roy, the secretary of a religious worship committee, in Lalmonirhat Sadar sub-district, where they engaged in vandalism and looting.

According to media reports, there has been vandalism and looting of several Hindu homes in Panchagarh. Hindus are being evicted from their homes and subjected to physical assault. The attacks have left Hindus living in fear.

Hindu councillors lynched by mob

On Sunday, one of the most lethal days of the protests, Hindu councillor Haradhan Roy from Rangpur City Corporation was reportedly killed. Another councillor, Kajal Roy, was also reportedly lynched. The violence resulted in over 100 deaths as protesters clashed with police while demanding Sheikh Hasina’s resignation.

It is reported that 10 Hindu homes have been targeted in Dinajpur town and other sub-districts. There are also reports of vandalism at a temple in Railbazarhat in the town.

Monindra Kumar Nath, Secretary General of the Oikya Parishad, states that attacks on Hindus are occurring in every district of Bangladesh.

According to Uttam Kumar Roy, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Council, three Hindu homes in the Khansama sub-district have been attacked.

Gautam Majumdar from Lakshmipur reported that at around 7:30 PM, more than 200-300 attackers set fire to his two-story building.

In Chandrapur village of the Kaliganj sub-district, four Hindu families’ homes were looted. In Purbo Sardubi village of the Hatibandha sub-district, 12 Hindu homes were set ablaze.
