Dhanbad, Nov 19: The Dhanbad Static Surveillance Team (SST) recovered Rs 1 lakh from a pickup van at the Chirkunda check post, located 45 km from the district headquarters, during a routine check-up. The vehicle was traveling from Asansol, West Bengal, into Jharkhand.
Deputy Commissioner and Dhanbad Electoral Officer Madhvi Mishra informed that a Mahindra pickup van travelling from Asansol, West Bengal, towards Jharkhand was stopped at the Barakar River check post on the border, where the Static Surveillance Team discovered Rs 1 lakh in the vehicle.
The van owner could not provide valid documentation for carrying the cash or explain the reason for transporting such a large amount to election-sensitive Jharkhand. The cash was handed over to the relevant authorities for further action.

DC Madhvi Mishra said that 16 check posts have been set up at the district’s borders, with 63 FST and SST teams conducting continuous vehicle checks in preparation for the upcoming elections, scheduled for November 20.
Rs 13.60 crore worth seizures in Dhanbad so far
Mishra reported that Rs 13.60 crore has been seized in the district so far, including Rs 3 crore in cash at different check posts, liquor worth Rs 27.55 lakh, and silver and other metals valued at Rs 17 lakh. These seizures are part of a special election-related checking campaign.
An official of the election committee said that under the Model Code of Conduct, individuals travelling with more than Rs 50,000 in cash must provide valid documentation. Cash amounts below this threshold do not require paperwork.
