Dhanbad, Nov 8: Dhanbad police seized Rs 2.35 lakh from two different bikes at the Chirkunda check post of the Jharkhand –West Bengal border, around 45 km away from district headquarters during routine checking of vehicles in the wake of assembly elections.

Chirkunda police station officer-in-charge Ramji Rai told media persons that Rs 1.35 lakh was recovered from West Bengal resident Md Abdul Qayum at late night of Thursday while Rs 1 lakh from the bike of Chirkunda (Dhanbad) resident Bijendra Gorai on Friday morning.

Bijendra Gorai was coming from Bengal to Dhanbad on his bike when officials posted on the check post for special checking and recovered Rs 1 lakh cash.  Bajendra Gorai failed to show the relevant papers for carrying such an amount to Jharkhand from Bengal.

Earlier in the late night of Thursday, officials seized Rs 1.35 lakh from Md  Abdul Qayum coming to Jharkhand from the Bengal side on a bike.

Police officials said concerned officials are investigating the seized amount. Since as per ECI guidelines there is a ban on carrying cash of over Rs 50,000 without valid paper, both persons have been asked to produce proper documents of cash.
