Jamshedpur, July 24: Loyola School, Telco, hosted the Frank Anthony Memorial All-India Inter-School Debate Competition 2026 (Category II, Stage I), bringing together some of Jamshedpur’s finest young debaters in a contest that celebrated critical thinking, articulate expression and informed public discourse.
The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a prayer by the school choir, setting a solemn and inspiring tone for the competition.
Organised under the aegis of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), the debate honoured the legacy of Frank Anthony, the founder chairman of the council and one of India’s most distinguished educationists.
Eminent jury evaluates participants
The competition was judged by an eminent panel comprising senior journalist Parvinder Bhatia, Monika Uppal, Principal of DBMS College of Education, and Prof. Sanjeev Varshney, Associate Dean of Alumni Relations and Professor of Marketing at XLRI, Jamshedpur.
Six leading schools from Jamshedpur participated in the event:
- Xavier Public School
- Sacred Heart Convent School
- Hill Top School
- Motilal Nehru Public School
- Ramakrishna Mission English School, Bistupur
- Ramakrishna Vivekananda International English School
Participants impressed the judges with well-researched arguments, persuasive rebuttals, confident delivery and thoughtful perspectives, reflecting the values of constructive debate and democratic dialogue.
Sacred Heart Convent School emerges champion
In the individual category, Sifat Sandhu of Sacred Heart Convent School was adjudged Best Speaker, while Aditi Kumari of Hill Top School was declared the First Runner-up Best Speaker.
The Winning Team Trophy was clinched by Sacred Heart Convent School (Team Socrates), represented by Navya Nidhi and Sifat Sandhu.
Hill Top School (Team Plato), represented by Swasti Sinha and Aditi Kumari, secured the First Runner-up Team trophy.
The event concluded on an inspiring note, reinforcing the importance of critical thinking, respectful dialogue and effective public speaking while carrying forward Frank Anthony’s vision of nurturing confident, articulate and socially responsible young citizens.
