Ranchi, June 11: Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth today took charge as the Minister of State
for Defence. He also greeted Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Later speaking to The Jharkhand Story, Seth said that he would try his best to live up to the expectations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “He would also ensure that Jharkhand contributes to realise the prime minister’s dream of making India self-reliant in the defence sector,” Seth added.
Strong army footprints in Jharkhand
Seth, who has been elected from Ranchi for the second consecutive term, said that Jharkhand has already contributed to the army in a big way. “There are strong footprints of the Army in Jharkhand with two army cantonments in Ranchi (Deepatoli and Namkum) and headquarters of the Punjab and the Sikh regiments in Ramgarh,” he pointed out.

Seth’s promises for HEC
The Ranchi MP, who earlier as chairman of the Jharkhand State Khadi Board, had done an excellent job, said that HEC is already engaged in the manufacture and supply of capital equipment to the defence sector. “I will try to explore how the HEC contribution to the defence sector could be scaled up,” he added.
“Besides, I will also try to invite defence manufacturing units to Jharkhand if the State government shows a genuine interest,” the junior defence minister said.
Defence University in Ranchi
Seth pointed out that the Raghubar Das government had set up a defence university (Jharkhand Raksha Shakti University) in Ranchi. “The university aims to provide physical training besides education which would aid young boys and girls who aspire to join the (defence) forces. I am told the university is not in good shape. I will try how the university fulfils its objective with which the BJP government had established it,” he signed off.
