New Delhi, Nov 18: The Supreme Court Collegium on Monday recommended appointing Justice D Krishakumar of the Madras High Court as the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court.
The position of Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court will become vacant following the retirement of Justice Siddharth Mridul on November 21, 2024.
The Collegium, comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna and Justices BR Gavai and Surya Kant, recommended appointing Justice D Krishnakumar, currently a judge of the Madras High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court, effective from the date of the incumbent Chief Justice’s retirement.

Justice Krishnakumar, who was appointed as a judge of the Madras High Court on April 7, 2016, is set to retire on May 21, 2025. According to the Collegium’s resolution issued today, he is the senior-most puisne judge in his parent High Court and hails from a Backward Community.
Before becoming a judge of the High Court, Justice Krishnakumar had a vast practice in civil, constitutional, and service matters at the High Court, particularly specializing in constitutional law.
