Jamshedpur, Nov 18: Jewellery including gold, silver, diamonds, platinum and idols seized from the portico area of Tatanagar railway station last month were handed over to jewellery traders here on Monday.

The GST department and other officials investigated and evaluated the seized consignment.

The incident took place in the wee hours of October 27 when a flying squad and an RPF team of Chakradharpur division stopped one BN Jha, a resident of Jugsalai, at Tatanagar station on suspicion.

During the search operation gold and silver jewellery, idols and valuables were recovered from a bag which he was carrying.

The recovered jewellery was later weighed and evaluated by GST officials. The total value of the seized consignment comprising gold, silver, platinum and diamond was estimated to be around Rs 1.57 crore

Meanwhile, the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) requested the East Singhbhum Assortment Law and Penitentiary Committee to drop the seizure. After an investigation, officials allowed the goods to be released on Monday.

GST and Railway Protection Force directed all businessmen to keep their documents and tax-related certificates with them while travelling.

In such cases without valid documents, confiscation action will be taken. The incident shows the seriousness of the administration regarding security and tax compliance.
