SC grants bail to ex-Jharia MLA Sanjeev Singh in murder case

Ranchi, August 8: Former Jharia MLA Sanjeev Singh has been granted bail by the Supreme Court. He had been in jail for the past seven years in connection with a murder case. After his bail petitions were rejected by the lower court and the High Court, he approached the Supreme Court seeking relief.

In Jail for Murder of Former Deputy Mayor

Sanjeev Singh was arrested by the police for his alleged involvement in the murder of former Dhanbad Deputy Mayor Neeraj Singh. Following the investigation, police filed a chargesheet against Sanjeev Singh and five others. The trial in the case is currently underway.

Neeraj Singh Hit by 25 Bullets

On March 22, 2017, criminals ambushed and killed Congress leader and former Dhanbad Deputy Mayor Neeraj Singh. The assailants climbed onto the bonnet of his Fortuner SUV and opened fire. Neeraj Singh sustained 25 bullet injuries. In the brutal attack, four people, including Neeraj Singh, were killed.

At the time of the incident, Neeraj Singh was travelling with three associates to his residence near Steel Gate in Dhanbad. As the vehicle slowed down near a speed breaker, the attackers launched a coordinated assault from three directions.

The assailants reportedly fired around 100 rounds. Neeraj Singh was hit by 25 bullets, while his bodyguard was struck by 67. The attack resulted in the on-spot deaths of Neeraj Singh, his personal bodyguard Munna Tiwari, his driver Ghaltu, and a close associate Ashok Yadav.
