Nemra (Ramgarh): August 8: Five days after the death of his father, former chief minister and Rajya Sabha MP Shibu Soren, Hemant Soren is navigating one of the most challenging phases of his life — managing personal grief while keeping the machinery of government moving. From his ancestral home in Nemra, Ramgarh district, the chief minister is performing traditional mourning rituals while also overseeing state affairs to ensure Jharkhand’s development agenda does not falter.

Duty and Devotion

The loss of Shibu Soren, known to many as “Dishom Guru”, has left a deep void in the family and the political landscape of Jharkhand. For Hemant Soren, the emotional weight is compounded by his responsibilities as the state’s leader. The rituals following his father’s passing demand his presence and attention, but so does the day-to-day governance of a state with urgent developmental priorities.

Soren is working from Nemra, personally reviewing essential files, issuing instructions to senior officials, and keeping in constant contact with the administration. His clear directive: no slowdown in public service delivery, no delays in resolving citizens’ issues, and no compromise on the momentum of development projects.

Maintaining the Pace of Governance

According to officials, Soren is receiving regular updates on key government activities and has insisted on real-time reporting where necessary. He has emphasised the need for efficiency and continuity, reminding his team that even in times of personal hardship, governance must remain responsive.

Senior officers have been told to ensure the swift resolution of public grievances and to maintain promptness in all government work. “There should be no laxity anywhere,” he has reportedly told them, adding that they should reach out immediately for instructions when required.

Strength from the People

Soren acknowledges that the resilience to work through this period has come from the people of Jharkhand. “The way the people have stood with my family during this difficult time has given me the courage to continue fulfilling my responsibilities,” he said. This public solidarity, he added, has strengthened his resolve to honour both his role as a son and his duty as chief minister.

Carrying Forward a Legacy

Reflecting on his father’s life, Soren spoke of a man who embodied struggle and service. “He never bowed to personal interest, always stood for the common people, and kept fighting for the cause of Jharkhand — from Parliament to the streets,” he said. “If Jharkhand exists today, it is because of Dishom Guru. Although his guiding presence is gone, his path will continue to inspire us.”

Soren revealed that his father had extracted several promises from him for the betterment of the state. He pledged to honour these commitments fully, saying, “I am making every possible effort to fulfil the promises I made to him.”

Even as he mourns, Hemant Soren’s message is clear — the state’s work will not stop. Balancing grief with governance, he continues to lead from Nemra, drawing on his father’s legacy as both a source of inspiration and a guide for the future.
