Kanpur, Sept 26: Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan announced on Thursday that he is retiring from T20 Internationals with immediate effect.
He also stated that the second Test against India would be his final game if the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) does not arrange a farewell match for him at home.
The 37-year-old veteran, who represented Bangladesh in 129 T20Is, will continue to compete in franchise leagues despite retiring from international T20s.

In T20 International cricket, Shakib Al Hasan has played 129 matches, scoring 2,551 runs with an average of 23.19. He has maintained a strike rate of 121.25 and has scored 13 half-centuries in T20Is. He has also taken 149 wickets at an economy of 6.81 in T20Is.
“I have played my last T20 match in T20 World Cup. We have discussed this with the selectors. Looking at the 2026 World Cup, this is the right time for me to move out. Hopefully BCB will find some great players and we will perform well,” Shakib stated ahead of the second Test against India in Kanpur.
“I have expressed my desire to play my last Test in Mirpur to BCB. They agreed with me. They are trying to organise everything so that I can go to Bangladesh. If that won’t happen, the match against India in Kanpur would be my last in Test cricket,” he added.
Shakib Al Hasan has played 70 Test matches, accumulating 4,600 runs at an average of 38.33 with 217 being his highest score. He has achieved 5 centuries and 31 half-centuries in Test cricket. He has also taken 242 wickets in Test cricket with 19 five-wicket hauls.
