Kolkata, Nov 13: After appointing Abhishek Nayar as head coach for IPL 2026, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have named former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson as their assistant coach. The franchise confirmed the announcement through its official X handle.
KKR CEO Venky Mysore expressed delight at Watson’s inclusion, stating that his extensive experience as both a player and coach at the highest level would greatly benefit the team’s culture and preparation. He emphasized that Watson’s deep understanding of the T20 format would be invaluable both on and off the field.

Watson said it was an honour to be part of such a prestigious franchise and expressed admiration for the passion of KKR fans and the team’s commitment to excellence. He added that he looked forward to working with the coaching group and players to help Kolkata secure another IPL title.

Watson brings significant IPL experience as both player and coach. He previously served as assistant coach for Delhi Capitals in 2022 and 2023.
As a player, he appeared in 145 IPL matches, scoring 3,874 runs with four centuries and 21 fifties at a strike rate of 137.91 and an average of 30.99, along with taking 92 wickets. In international T20s, Watson played 58 matches, scoring 1,462 runs with one century and ten fifties and claiming 48 wickets.
