Ranchi, Dec 6:  Disappointed with the party’s defeat in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, Jharkhand Congress president Rajesh Thakur today asked the ministers in the Hemant Soren government to introspect on their works.

What is common in Congress defeat?

“It’s still enough time to have a serious review of the functioning of the ministers here in Jharkhand. There is one thing in common in our defeat in the two states we ruled- Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. There the ministers were defeated in bulk in each of the two states. It’s time for our ministers here for introspection to their works here in Jharkhand,” he told The Jharkhand Story correspondent in Palamu.

When asked if the Congress is any scared of the poll reverse here too in Jharkhand, Thakur said ” We tell you we are making outreaches with the common people. We stand with them. People will support us.”

Notably, four Congress MLAs -Rameshwar Oraon, Alamgir Alam, Banna Gupta and Badal Patralekh-are ministers in the Hemant Soren government.

BJP’s religious cards

The PCC chief said, “The BJP always plays religious cards. It played the card of the Sanatan Dharm issue in these elections. It turned the voters in its favour. The Congress talks about the issues that concern the common man like unemployment, price rise, good health facilities, schemes for the farmers etc.”

On being reminded that the spectre of the CAA (Citizen Amendment Act) is in the pipeline and Pran Prathishta of Lord Ram is due in the third week of January, Thakur said: “There is no denying the fact that these two things are in the offing but the Congress in Jharkhand will fight to the finish to offset all such divisive designs of the BJP.”

Finance Minister Dr Rameshwar Oraon

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Dr Rameshwar Oraon, who hails from Palamu, said, “It’s enormously disappointing. I had never expected the party’s debacle in Chhattisgarh. However, it’s people’s mandate and the Congress respects it in all humility.”

On the impact of this defeat in Jharkhand, he said, “We will put up a brave fight. We lost Chhattisgarh, MP and Rajasthan but nobody can say we did not work hard there in all these states. We remained connected with the people.”
