The doctors admitted that the college hospital does not have advanced medical equipment to conduct such a rare operation (arthroscopic ligament reconstruction of knee joint) but it could be possible due to supply by a USA-based Conmed company.
After the successful operation of Abhishek Chakraborty, faculty members of SNMMCH orthopaedics discussed with Dr Gupta of Fortis Hospital Kolkata over the development of equipment and operations.
“Arthroscopic ligament reconstruction of knee joint costs a minimum Rs 1.60 lakh in a corporate hospital but at SNMMCH it was done free of cost. Such operation would generate faith in patients on doctors of SNMMCH and help the institution in getting PG course permission from the National Medical Commission (NMC),” said Dr DP Bhushan.
The Superintendent, Dr Anil Kumar, Principal Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad and faculty members of different departments have congratulated the orthopaedics department doctors’ team.
