Dhanbad, Nov 30: Hundreds of teachers of the five government-owned medical colleges feel cheated as Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Health Arun Kumar Singh has failed to execute his announcement made over one year back to give them their due promotions.

Singh announced it on September 29 last year that the promotion of teachers in all five medical colleges would be notified within seven to 10 days.

He made this announcement while talking to media persons during the inspection of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad.

Notably, Singh visited all five medical colleges after assuming charge of the health department to streamline medical education.
“He announced to issue a notification for promotion within 10 days on September 29, 2022, but he has yet to fulfil it. Now, he is going to retire next month (December). Teachers of all five medical colleges feel cheated,” said a teacher at SNMMCH.

The promotion of several teachers in five medical colleges in the state has been pending for years.
The ACS Health had then said, “Promotion of teachers in five medical colleges is due for long. So, the government has decided to promote assistant professors to associate professors and associate professors to professors to cater for the requirements of institutions.”

A senior teacher of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur said that there would be no additional financial burden on the government from giving promotions to teachers as senior assistant teachers are drawing scale of associate professor and senior associate professors are getting scale of professor.

Teachers of medical colleges alleged that he made spot assessments of all five institutions and made more than a hundred announcements but executed none. “If teachers are given due promotion it would immediately help SNMMCH in getting PG course permission,” he added.
According to retired teachers of medical colleges, in 2004, the then Health Secretary RS Sharma not only gave due promotions to the teachers of medical colleges from back dates but also created posts of professors in different faculties in RMCH Ranchi, MGMMCH Jamshedpur and PMCH Dhanbad. After him, no health secretary cared for the development of medical colleges, they added.
