Dhanbad, Jan 15: A railway employee was allegedly strangled to death by his son, daughter, and her lover in Dhanbad after years of domestic conflict caused by his excessive alcohol consumption and abusive behaviour, police said on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Birbal, a resident of the Hirapur area. His body was recovered near Pampu Talab in the railway area on January 5, 2025.
UD Case Turned Murder Investigation
Initially, a UD (unnatural death) case was registered at Dhanbad Sadar police station based on a written complaint filed by his second daughter, Arti Kumari.

However, after investigation, a special police team cracked the murder case on January 14 and arrested all three accused.
Accused Arrested, Crime Confessed
Dhanbad Sadar police station officer-in-charge Manoj Kumar Pandey told media persons that the arrested accused were son Rohit Kumar, daughter Writu Kumari, and her lover Fardin Khan. All three confessed to killing Birbal.
According to police, the accused stated that Birbal consumed alcohol daily, frequently abused family members, and often accused his wife of having an illicit relationship, creating continuous tension at home.
“They said they committed the crime to get permanent relief from his daily harassment,” the officer said.
The accused revealed that on the evening of January 4, they took Birbal on a motorcycle to Pampu Talab. After making him heavily intoxicated, they strangled him to death using a muffler and fled the spot.
Special Team Cracks Case in 10 Days
A special investigation team comprising Dhanbad Sadar OIC Manoj Kumar Pandey, Saraidhela OIC Manjit Kumar, Inspector Abhishek Kumar Tiwari, Ajay Kumar Singh, and Rajesh Kumar Singh was constituted.
The team solved the murder case within 10 days through technical and field investigation.
