Daltonganj, September 22: A mother-son duo displayed remarkable courage and presence of mind in foiling an attempted daylight robbery at a Customer Service Point (CSP) in Gopalganj under Lesliganj police station limits of Palamu, while timely police intervention prevented the two arrested suspects from being attacked by an angry crowd.
The incident took place around 2.20 pm on Monday when two armed men allegedly entered the CSP operated by Rohit and robbed ₹7,100 at gunpoint. One of the accused reportedly fired a shot in the air to scare people and facilitate their escape.
According to police sources, Rohit and his mother confronted the robbers and managed to overpower one of them. The second accused was caught by local residents who gathered at the spot after hearing the commotion.
Police reach spot, prevent mob attack
As the crowd grew increasingly angry, the situation threatened to turn into a mob attack. Lesliganj police reached the spot promptly and rescued both accused from the crowd.
SDPO Lesliganj Prashant Kumar said the robbery attempt was foiled due to the courage and presence of mind shown by Rohit and his mother. He also credited the police team with preventing the situation from escalating further.
Police recovered the entire looted amount of ₹7,100, along with a desi pistol, five live rounds, a motorcycle and a mobile phone, the SDPO said.
Accused linked to earlier CSP robberies
The arrested accused have been identified as Pawan Singh, 21, and Ranbeer Singh, 20, both residents of the Tarhassi police station area. They have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.
Both accused were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody on Tuesday, September 22.
According to police, Pawan Singh has confessed to involvement in two other Customer Service Point robberies allegedly committed around two months ago in the Tarhassi and Manatu police station areas. The police are verifying the claims.
Stolen bike used in robbery attempt
SDPO Prashant Kumar said the accused appeared to have planned a series of crimes.
“Earlier in the day Monday, these two had looted a bike. With the same stolen bike within hours these two attempted to loot Rohit’s customer service point,” he said.
The robbery attempt, however, failed after Rohit and his mother confronted the accused and local residents joined in. Police subsequently recovered the motorcycle allegedly used by the duo.
The incident has drawn attention to the courage displayed by the mother-son duo and the quick police response that prevented the situation from turning into a mob-violence incident.
