Special camp for Jharkhand badminton teams for SGFI national championship begins at Khelgaon

Ranchi Nov 21: A special camp of  Jharkhand under-17 and under-19 boys’ and girls’ badminton teams for the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) national championship began at Khelgaon Stadium, Ranchi.

The SGFI under-19 national badminton championship is scheduled to be held at Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) from December 12 to 16  while the under-17  SGFI national championship will be played at Vadodara (Gujarat) from December 17 to 21.

As per Khelo Jharkhand State Programme officer Dheersen  Soreng, a 20-day special camp is being organized for every event team before the national championship so that the Jharkhand squad can dish up their best performance.

The programme officer said  Jharkhand teams for different events have been selected based on the Khelo Jharkhand championship.

NIS coach of Jharkhand badminton team Ravi Keshri said that all selected players of  under-19 and under-17 have reported and they are being imparted training as per scheduled programme.  Keshri said that since time is short for the preparation for the national championship we can’t change the basic techniques of players but have focused on developing their skills.

Keshri, who is the second badminton  NIS Diploma coach of Jharkhand after national coach Sachin Rana of Jamshedpur, said that in the camp honing the strong zone of players and trying to correct their weak points is in their focus.

“We have also focused on physical training along with court  practice, stamina and endurance of players in the camp so that they could display their best performance in the championship,” said Ravi  Keshri
