Jamshedpur, July 28: A speeding truck rammed into a car on Marine Drive under the Sonari police station area on Tuesday, extensively damaging the vehicle. The car driver, however, escaped unhurt in what eyewitnesses described as a miraculous escape.
According to eyewitnesses, the car was travelling along Marine Drive when the speeding truck crashed into it with tremendous force. The impact crushed the front portion of the car, triggering panic among commuters and briefly disrupting traffic on the busy road.
Soon after the accident, the truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene before police arrived.
After receiving information, Sonari police reached the spot, inspected the accident site and seized both the damaged car and the truck. The vehicles were later taken to the police station, following which traffic movement on Marine Drive returned to normal.
CCTV Footage Being Examined
Police have launched a search for the absconding truck driver and are examining CCTV footage from Marine Drive and nearby areas to reconstruct the sequence of events.
Investigators are also trying to ascertain the truck’s speed at the time of the collision and trace the route taken by the driver before abandoning the vehicle.
Statements of eyewitnesses and local residents have been recorded as part of the investigation.
Police said legal action will be initiated once the truck driver is identified. The exact cause of the accident is under investigation.
