Jamshedpur, August 8: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur has announced the appointment of eminent industrialist Sunil Alagh as the new Chairman of its Board of Governors (BOG).
The appointment was made by the President of India.
On his arrival at the campus, Alagh was warmly welcomed by the institute’s Director, Prof. (Dr.) Gautam Sutradhar, who felicitated him with a shawl, memento, and bouquet. He toured the campus to review ongoing activities and held discussions on the institute’s future development.

Addressing a gathering at the Diamond Jubilee Hall—which included Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members, and media representatives—Alagh expressed optimism about the institute’s growth trajectory.

He underscored his vision to improve NIT Jamshedpur’s national ranking by focusing on infrastructure, innovation, and academic excellence.
“Keep learning continuously, stay informed, and keep updating yourselves with new ideas,” he urged the academic community.
In his address, Director Prof. Sutradhar reaffirmed his goal of positioning NIT Jamshedpur among the top 50 institutions in India. He outlined a comprehensive roadmap for the institute’s development and called for collaborative efforts with a forward-looking approach.
Who is Sunil Alagh?
Sunil Alagh brings decades of leadership and corporate experience to the role. He is the founder and managing director of SKA Advisors, a strategic advisory firm, and the former MD & CEO of Britannia Industries Limited.
An Economics graduate from St. Xavier’s College and an MBA from IIM Kolkata, Alagh has served on the boards of prestigious organizations such as Prasar Bharati, United Breweries, Gati Limited, and Indofil Industries. He also advises Hannover Re, a leading German reinsurance company.

A familiar face in the business and media circles, Alagh hosted The Job Show on CNBC India—the country’s first televised job hunt program—and served as President of the All India Management Association (AIMA) in 2004.
His achievements include the Kashalkar Memorial Gold Medal (2000) for contributions to India’s food processing industry and recognition as a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award (2002).
