Jamshedpur, April 28: Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar, on Saturday, motivated the youths to continue to focus on their education even if they want to become sportspersons. He said that education helps a sportsperson scientifically analyse the situation during the game and perform well.

Gavaskar graced the city of Jamshedpur with his presence, engaging in an enlightening session with local students. The “Sunny Evening” event held at Kusum Kamani Auditorium was a vibrant convergence of inspiration and learning.

Role of education in sports

He spoke on the invaluable role of education in sports. Drawing from his illustrious career, Gavaskar motivated aspiring cricketers to prioritise education, citing its instrumental role in strategic thinking and performance enhancement on the field. He said that his father motivated him to complete his degree.

Shri Sathya Sai Health and Education Trust

The evening commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, featuring esteemed figures such as Sunil Gavaskar himself. Dr C Sreenivas, Chairman of Shri Sathya Sai Health and Education Trust, and Nakul Kamani, President of the school Managing Committee, were also present, among other dignitaries.

Addressing the audience, Paramita Roy Chaudhury, the school’s principal, extended a warm welcome, setting the tone for an evening of wisdom and inspiration. Government officials seized the opportunity to discuss the importance of voting and the electoral process, instilling civic awareness among attendees.

Leadership and Cricket

The event’s highlight was Sunil Gavaskar’s insightful talk on ‘Leadership and Cricket’.

Following the enlightening discourse, a lively questionnaire session ensued, allowing students from various schools to interact directly with the cricketing legend. As a token of appreciation for their participation, autograph bats signed by Gavaskar were presented to the enthusiastic participants.

The event culminated with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Principal Paramita Roy Chaudhury, who expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the evening’s success. Eminent personalities, school principals, teachers, and students from approximately 19 schools across Jamshedpur graced the occasion, underscoring the profound impact of Sunil Gavaskar’s visit on the local community.

Through anecdotes from his journey, Gavaskar inspired the youth of Jamshedpur to embrace education as a cornerstone of success, both on and off the field, making “Sunny Evening” a truly memorable and enriching experience for all involved.
