Thiruvananthapuram, May 12: A leadership shift took place in the Kerala Congress unit on Monday, with Sunny Joseph taking over as the new Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president. Alongside him, AP Anilkumar, PC Vishnunadh, and Shafi Parambil assumed roles as working presidents.

Additionally, Congress leader Adoor Prakash was appointed as the new (United Democratic Front) UDF convener, replacing M.M. Hassan.

This transition marks a significant step toward strengthening the party’s position ahead of the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections, with Congress leaders expressing confidence that the fresh leadership will steer the party to victory.
Sunny Joseph succeeds K Sudhakaran, the current Kannur MP, in the KPCC presidency. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal emphasized the importance of a united leadership team, describing Sunny Joseph as a calm and committed leader who will carry forward the party’s ideology.
He added that the leadership overhaul—both in KPCC and UDF—was aimed at building a strong, coordinated campaign structure, and noted that the shift from M.M. Hassan’s leadership was part of this broader effort to assemble a cohesive team capable of driving a unified electoral campaign.

In his remarks, Venugopal acknowledged the growing disillusionment with the Left government in Kerala, noting that even within CPI(M), many are losing faith. He stressed the need for the Congress to remain unified, putting aside individual ambitions for collective responsibility.
“Without Congress, we are nothing. The UDF will lead the next government in Kerala,” he affirmed, underlining the party’s determination to reclaim power in the state.
