Ranchi, Sept 22: The Supreme Court on Monday heard the bail plea of former Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan. During the proceedings, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) requested additional time to file its response, which the top court accepted.
The bench comprising Justice Suryakant and Justice Joymala Bagchi scheduled the next hearing of Chhavi Ranjan’s plea for October 10.

Bail Plea Rejected by Lower Courts
Chhavi Ranjan had approached the Supreme Court for bail after his plea was rejected by both the PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) court and the Jharkhand High Court.

On August 6, a single-judge bench of the High Court, presided over by Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, dismissed his petition, denying him bail.
Case Related to Sale of Army Land
The case in which he has sought bail involves the purchase and sale of army-occupied land in the Bariatu area of the Bargai subdivision in Ranchi.

Along with former DC Chhavi Ranjan, several others are accused in the matter, including prominent businessman Vishnu Agrawal, Revenue Sub-Inspector of Bargai subdivision Bhanu Pratap Prasad, Pradeep Bagchi, land dealer Afsar Ali, Imtiaz Khan, Talha Khan, Faiyaz Khan, Mohammad Saddam, Amit Agrawal, and Dilip Ghosh.
