Jamshedpur, August 25: Tata Steel, one of the world’s leading steel producers, will mark its 119th Foundation Day, celebrating a journey that began on August 26, 1907, in Sakchi (now Jamshedpur), with the establishment of the Tata Iron and Steel Company (TISCO) by visionary industrialist Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata.

What started as a bold dream to strengthen the backbone of a young nation has grown into a global enterprise that stands as a symbol of industrial excellence and corporate citizenship.

Tata Steel was among the first in India to institutionalise labour welfare, town planning, and inclusive growth, setting benchmarks much ahead of its time.

True to Jamsetji Tata’s vision—“The community is not just another stakeholder in business but the very purpose of its existence”—the company continues to invest significantly in social development. In FY 2024-25 alone, its CSR initiatives positively impacted 5.77 million lives across India.

Over the past century, Tata Steel has weathered world wars, economic downturns, and technological disruptions, emerging stronger with innovation and resilience.

From being India’s first integrated steel plant, it has evolved into one of the largest global steel producers, with operations spanning multiple countries.

In recent years, the company has placed strong emphasis on sustainability and decarbonisation. The commissioning of India’s largest blast furnace at Kalinganagar and progress on building electric arc furnaces in Ludhiana (India) and Port Talbot (UK) underline its low-emission steelmaking journey. Tata Steel has also committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2045.

As the company looks to the future, its focus remains clear: leading the steel industry’s transition towards a sustainable future—balancing industrial progress, community welfare, and environmental stewardship.
