Srinagar, July 24: An overnight encounter in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir resulted in the deaths of a terrorist and a soldier, officials stated on Wednesday.
Officials reported that the Army and police initiated an anti-terrorist operation in the Lolab area of Kupwara a few days ago after receiving intelligence about potential terrorist activity.
According to officials, the security forces located the hiding terrorists on Tuesday, triggering an encounter.

“Based on specific input regarding presence of terrorists in general area Kowut, Kupwara, a Joint Search Operation was launched by #IndianArmy and @JmuKmrPolice on days leading up to 23 July 24,” the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps posted on its X handle.

Suspicious movements were detected on Tuesday, prompting vigilant troops to challenge the suspects. The terrorists responded with indiscriminate fire, leading to a gunfight.
The Army reported on X that one terrorist was killed and an NCO was injured during the firefight, with the operation still underway.
The officials reported that the injured soldier eventually succumbed to his wounds.
