Dhanbad, Dec 16: It may sound bizarre!

The Jharkhand health department has demoted senior government doctor Dr Ramdeo Paswan, who, as a civil surgeon, worked hard to get the Kayakalp award for three Sadar Hospitals in Jharkhand.

Sadar Hospital Sahibganj

The Central government recognized his latest exemplary achievement when it selected Sadar Hospital Sahibganj for the 2022-23 Kayakalp Award, a mark of the best government hospital in 24 districts of Jharkhand in providing public health facilities to patients.

National Health Mission (NHM) Managing Director Alok Trivedi has informed the Sahibganj district health department regarding selecting the best Sadar hospital in the state for the ‘Kayakalp’ annual Award.

Kayakalp Award

The Kayakalp Award was constituted in 2015 as part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to recognize and felicitate public health. The Award is given every year.

The initiative aims to improve and promote cleanliness, hygiene, waste management and infection control practices in public health care facilities and incentivize the exemplary performing facilities.

Sahebganj Sadar Hospital has been selected based on a two-day (January 4-5) assessment conducted by the central government team. It was found to top all parameters fixed by the central government team for the Award.

Under the Award, Sahibganj Sadar Hospital would get a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh. Besides this, the hospital also got an award of Rs 10 lakh in the Eco-Friendly Category.

This Award to Sahibganj Sadar Hospital is significant as it has fewer resources than Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Dhanbad Sadar hospitals. But with available resources, the authorities and doctors made it top in the state.

Award for Godda, Pakur Sadar hospitals

Earlier, in 2019, as a civil surgeon, he got Godda to get this prestigious Award. In 2022, Pakur earned this Award, where Dr Paswan was the civil surgeon.

Ironically, Dr Paswan was transferred as a simple medical officer to Dumka district from the civil surgeon’s post in Sahibganj district On July 31, 2023.

Dr Paswan, a 1990 batch medical officer, became a civil surgeon of Sahibganj district in 2022. In merely 11 months of preparation, he made the system of Sadar Hospital to get the Kayakalp Award.

No promotion in 34 years of job

Incidentally, in 34 years of job, he has not been promoted like any other medical officer.

“The credit goes to the health department and the deputy commissioner. I only streamlined the hospital’s available resources in providing facilities to patients. Of course, for this preparation, I had to labour hard day and night,” Dr Paswan said humbly.
