PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, August 13: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds, with speeds reaching up to 30 Kmph, at isolated places across Jharkhand over the next few days.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level currently extends from Bhatinda, Patiala, and Dehradun to Arunachal Pradesh, skirting the foothills of the Himalayas.

Additionally, a trough from south Bihar to north Odisha is influencing weather patterns up to 1.5 Km above the mean sea level.

An upper air cyclonic circulation persists over the central Bay of Bengal between 3.1 and 5.8 Km above mean sea level.

Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal today.

This system is expected to intensify over the following 48 hours, potentially enhancing rainfall activity in parts of eastern India.

Monsoon activity remained weak over Jharkhand in the past 24 hours, with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms reported at isolated locations.

According to weathermen, moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal may revive monsoon activity in the state from the weekend, bringing scattered to widespread showers.

Meanwhile, residents are advised to exercise caution during thunderstorms and avoid open areas to minimise lightning risks.
