South 24 Parganas, Nov 13: In the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal’s Joynagar, a Trinamool Congress leader, Saifuddin Lashkar, was shot dead on Monday morning. Subsequently, an alleged assailant was lynched by a mob, as reported by the police.
When Saifuddin Laskar (47), the TMC regional president of the Bamungachi area in Joynagar, walked outside to perform prayers in the morning, he was shot dead by miscreants at close range not far from his home, according to the police.
He was swiftly taken to a nearby hospital, where medical professionals pronounced him as brought dead. Outraged followers of Laskar, whose wife holds the position of a panchayat pradhan, apprehended two individuals believed to be the assailants. They proceeded to lynch one of them, while the police, who arrived at the scene promptly, rescued and arrested the other.
Following the incident, a substantial police force was dispatched to the area. Local MLA Biswanath Das asserted that individuals supported by the CPI-M and BJP were responsible for the murder. Witnesses and police reported that several residences in the nearby Daluakhali village were vandalized, robbed and set ablaze after the occurrence.
Some of the Daluakhali residents who were impacted stated that since they support the CPI-M, their homes were targeted and many of them were beaten. They stated that their houses were deliberately set on fire, and despite the presence of the police, attempts to extinguish the flames using fire engines were hindered.
