Jamshedpur, Nov 9: Police on Thursday arrested two youths for allegedly being involved in the murder of Ragib Alam under the Kapali Thana area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district near Jamshedpur on Saturday night.
Those arrested have been identified as Mohammed Washim alias Channa Washim, a resident of Old Purulia Road in Azadnagar and Mohammed Arman, a resident of Golmuri Muslim Bustee. Yet another accused identified as Mohammed Jishan is absconding.
According to police, the murder took place in the sequel to a dispute over bursting crackers on the premises of Karimcity College’s Mango branch on November 4 afternoon.
The two arrested were said to have told the police that there was a clash between two groups of students hailing from Kapali and the rest of the localities. The clash was apparently mitigated soon after, but the students hailing from Mango, Azadnagar and other places of the city had turned up well-prepared at Kapali late in the evening, intending to teach a lesson to those indulged in the college campus from the Kapali area.
According to those arrested, as the belligerent group tried to hit the boys in the Kapali area, Ragib Alam, who was around, tried to mediate between the two conflict groups. But Mohammed Jishan who was carrying a pistol suddenly fished out the pistol and fired at Ragib, causing him to sustain the bullet.
Ragib (25) was rushed to a nearby health hub where he was declared as brought dead.
The police are trying to arrest Jishan by conducting raids at probable hideouts.
