Dhanbad, Nov 9: All 118 Union Bank of India branches in Jharkhand will remain shut on November 23 as the Jharkhand State Union Bank Employees Association (JSUBEA) has called a one-day strike for the implementation of bank rules.
The JSUBEA has in this regard served a notice to the general manager (GM) of the Jharkhand region of Union Bank.
JSUBEA general secretary ML Singh giving this information today said that despite repeated reminders the management did not follow the bank’s rules, so the employees had to call a strike on November 23.
“All 118 Union Bank branches in the state would be shut down in support of demands,” said Singh.
The branches of Union Bank in Jharkhand fall into two regions, Ranchi and Dhanbad. The employees of the Dhanbad region Union Bank staged a day-long dharna on November 4 and Ranchi region Union Bank employees held a demonstration on November 8 in Ranchi.
The JSUBEA general secretary charged that the management does not follow Jharkhand banks’ rules and regulations. “Unfair labour practices are being done openly. Temporary employees are not paid minimum wage fixed by the state government. Employees are being made subject of harassment in the name of deputation,” he added.
“Recruitment is completely closed in Jharkhand. Temporary and casual staff are not adjusted on vacant posts despite perennial demand. The management does not discuss with the employee’s body over Information Resources Management (IRM) policy. All these factors compel the employees’ body to call a strike in the organization,” said ML Singh.
JSUBEA leaders RK Singh, RK Jaiswal, Munna Gadi, K R Choudhary, Dipak Kumar, Asim Mukherjee, Yogendra Mahto, and Ranjit Pathak, also addressed the dharna sabha at the Ranchi Union Bank branch on Wednesday.
