New Delhi, Feb 1: The Union Budget for FY 2025-26 has allocated Rs 6,81,210.27 crore to the Ministry of Defence (MoD). This marks a 9.53% increase compared to the FY 2024-25 budget estimate and accounts for 13.45% of the total Union Budget, making it the largest share among all ministries.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for presenting a budget that aligns with the government’s goal of modernizing the Armed Forces. He emphasized that the budget aims to benefit all sections of society, including youth, farmers, women, and the middle class, who are set to receive significant advantages.

Out of the total allocation, Rs 1,80,000 crore (26.43%) will go towards capital expenditure for defence services. Meanwhile, Rs 3,11,732.30 crore (45.76%) is earmarked for revenue expenditure, covering operational costs for the Armed Forces.
Additionally, Rs 1,60,795 crore (23.60%) is dedicated to Defence Pensions, with the remaining Rs 28,682.97 crore (4.21%) set aside for civilian organizations under the MoD.
The Ministry of Defence has also declared FY 2025-26 as the “Year of Reforms,” focusing on simplifying the Defence Procurement Procedure to ensure the most efficient use of funds and further strengthening the government’s commitment to modernizing the military.
