Ranchi, April 13: Usha Martin University organised a menstrual health awareness programme, bringing together school and college students to promote hygiene, break myths, and encourage open conversations around menstruation.

Focus on awareness and breaking myths

Students from Kasturba Gandhi Girls School and Usha Martin University participated in the programme, which began with registration, followed by a welcome address and inauguration.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Madhulika Kaushik addressed the participants virtually, stressing the importance of correct information, awareness, and open discussion on menstrual health.

Experts conducted sessions on adolescent reproductive health, menstrual hygiene practices, safe use and disposal of sanitary products, nutrition during menstruation, and common myths and facts. Practical demonstrations were also held to improve understanding.

Interactive sessions and distribution of hygiene kits

An interactive question-and-answer session allowed students to openly discuss their concerns. Participants also shared personal experiences, creating a supportive environment for learning.

Sanitary pads and hygiene kits were distributed among students, along with informative materials to help reinforce awareness beyond the programme.

The initiative aimed to improve understanding of menstrual cycles, promote hygiene practices, highlight the importance of nutrition, and encourage young girls to speak about menstruation without hesitation or stigma.

The programme was attended by Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Milind, Registrar Dr. Shiv Pratap Verma, Campus Director and Dean Academics Prof. B.N. Sinha, Dr. Anil Kumar Mishra, Finance Officer Ms. Renu Lal, Training and Placement Officer Dr. Priyanka Pallavi, along with faculty members. It was coordinated by Dr. Sunil Kumar and Ms. Shailza Nimmi Guria and concluded with a vote of thanks.
