Jamshedpur, Sept 22: Police have busted an alleged vehicle theft gang operating in Jamshedpur and adjoining areas and recovered 21 stolen vehicles in a major breakthrough.
The action followed an investigation into a series of vehicle theft cases reported from different parts of the city. Acting on confidential inputs and leads gathered through technical surveillance, police teams tracked the movements of suspected gang members and conducted raids at multiple locations.
Police said the recovered vehicles were allegedly stolen from different police station areas and later moved to other locations to evade detection. The vehicles were reportedly concealed at different places before being moved further for disposal.
Vehicles being linked to theft cases
Police have seized all 21 vehicles and are verifying their chassis and engine numbers to establish their ownership. Police are also matching the vehicles with theft cases registered at various police stations in Jamshedpur and adjoining areas.
Investigators are now probing the wider network allegedly involved in the racket, including the number of people operating the gang and the locations used to conceal or dispose of stolen vehicles.
Probe underway to trace wider network
Police are questioning suspects and examining technical evidence to identify other members of the alleged gang and establish their links with earlier vehicle theft cases.
Officials said the recovery of 21 vehicles could help investigators make progress in several other theft cases registered in Jamshedpur and neighbouring areas.
