Dhanbad, Dec 1: Vice-President of India Jagdeep Dhankar will be the chief guest at the 46th convocation of IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad scheduled to be held on December 10, Deputy Director of IIT ISM Dhanbad Prof Dheeraj Kumar said today.
Vice-President will award degrees
The Vice- President would award degrees to a total of 1,917 research scholars, students of the 2021 batch of the institution. Prof Prem Vrat, chairman of the IIT ISM Board of Governors, would preside over the function. Acting Director Prof JK Patnayak will present a report on the institution.
This is the first time the Vice-President of India would be the chief guest at the institute’s convocation after the institution attained the status of IIT. In 2014, the then President of India Pranab Mukherjee attended the 36th convocation of the Indian School of Mines (ISM).

President’s Gold medal
Prof Dheeraj Kumar said that in the 46th convocation on December 10, one B. Tech engineering student of the 2021-22 batch would be given President Gold Medal. This award is being given to a student who comes through JEE Advance and has the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) and Overall Grade Point Average (OGPA).
Besides it, Kumar said 43 students will get gold medals, 15 silver and 19 sponsored medals.
Kumar said that out of 806 B. Tech students, 20 will get double degrees of B. Tech and M.Tech, 69 Business Administration, 145 Master of Science, 95 Science and Technology, 311 Master of Technology, 66 Integrated Master Technology, 372 PhD, 33 PG Diploma.
The IIT administration has issued a dress code for the students in the convocation.
