Ranchi, February 24: Dr Vikas Kumar Gupta, a well-known anesthesiologist from Ranchi, was among the seven people who lost their lives in an air ambulance crash in Jharkhand’s Chatra district on Monday evening.
The air ambulance was en route from Ranchi to Delhi when it crashed in the Simaria forest area. The aircraft took off from Birsa Munda Airport at 7:11 pm but disappeared from radar within minutes. Its wreckage was later located in a dense forest in Chatra district. All seven people on board died in the accident. Authorities have begun an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
A Life Dedicated to Service
Dr Vikas Kumar Gupta was widely respected for his humble nature, dedication, and service to patients. He served at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Latehar, from 2016 to 2018. During his posting there, residents protested against his transfer, requesting that he continue serving in the area. He was known for treating financially weak patients free of cost.

He later served at Namkum CHC and was currently posted at Ranchi Sadar Hospital. Over the years, he also worked at Saaol Clinic and J. Sharan Pathology in Ranchi.
Originally from Aurangabad district in Bihar, Dr Gupta completed his MBBS from SCB Medical College, Cuttack. Since his school days, he had aspired to become a responsible and compassionate doctor.
Family in Mourning, Tributes Pour In
Dr Gupta is survived by his wife, who works at the Kutchahari branch of the State Bank of India, and their 8-year-old son. His sudden death has left his family in deep grief.
His body was initially kept at Chatra Sadar Hospital and will be taken to his native village in Aurangabad, Bihar, where his last rites will be performed. Tributes were paid to him at Namkum CHC, with a large number of people gathering to offer their respects.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Ranchi, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. IMA Ranchi Secretary Dr. Abhishek Ramadhin said the medical community is shocked by the loss and described Dr. Gupta as friendly, compassionate, and always ready to help others.
The death of Dr Vikas Kumar Gupta is being seen as a major loss not only to his family but also to the medical fraternity and society at large.
