Daltonganj, March 13: A 45-year-old woman was trampled to death by two elephants in the Hemna forest area under Balumath forest range in Jharkhand’s Latehar district early Thursday morning.

The victim has been identified as Dulari Devi. According to officials, she was working in her lentil field when the elephants attacked her.

Balumath Range In-charge N.K. Mahto said the woman was alone in the field when the two tuskless elephants spotted her and trampled her to death.

There was no one nearby who could help her during the attack.

Ex-Gratia Relief Announced
Officials said the post-mortem was conducted at the Sadar Hospital on Thursday evening.
The Latehar forest division has provided ₹40,000 as immediate ex gratia relief to the bereaved family. The remaining ₹3.60 lakh compensation will be released after completion of formalities, including the post-mortem report and death certificate.
