New Delhi, July 30: A high-level World Bank delegation, led by Country Director for India Auguste Tano Koume, met Chief Minister Hemant Soren at Jharkhand Bhawan in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Koume praised the state’s flagship scheme for economic development and poverty alleviation, the Chief Minister Maiyaan Samman Yojana, describing it as a strong step toward empowering rural communities and improving livelihoods.

Launched to provide direct financial assistance to economically vulnerable women, the Maiyaan Yojana has become a cornerstone of Jharkhand’s social welfare strategy. The scheme played a key role in the last assembly election, where it was seen as a game-changer. Its direct outreach and impact on rural households significantly boosted public support for the ruling party, helping to consolidate its voter base across key constituencies.

During the meeting, Hemant Soren highlighted the state’s broader efforts in rural development, renewable energy, tourism, manufacturing, agriculture, education, and natural resource management. He also discussed opportunities for investment and future development initiatives.

The World Bank team shared experiences from projects it supports across India and expressed interest in collaborating with the Jharkhand government to strengthen development planning, program design, and execution mechanisms.

Both sides agreed to continue the dialogue and organise a joint workshop in Ranchi to explore opportunities for deeper cooperation.
