Daltonganj, Aug. 10: Yesteryear’s extremists, especially of the splinter group JJMP (Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad), are donning the role of criminals, thieves and robbers. They are in a new role, no less threatening to the law.

The offloads to the JJMP are desperate to eke out a living by just criminality.

“This turncoat of them is a new trend,” said SP Reeshma Ramesan while briefing the press along with SDPO Sadar Mani Bhushan Prasad.

Ex-ultras of the splinter group JJMP

Reeshma Ramesan said, “Ex-ultras of the splinter group JJMP are taking to crimes. There is a pattern behind it. We are studying it.”

SDPO Sadar Mani Bhushan Prasad nodded in affirmation giving a lot of impression that ex-Naxals are a new breed of criminals.

When asked by this correspondent that such an influx from extremism even in one or two numbers to raw crimes like road hold up, shoot out, stealing of property, raiding of jewellery shops etc may see an upswing in crime, the SP said, “This can’t be ruled out.”

Notably, DGP Anurag Gupta has given orders for verification of the criminals coming out of the jails on bonds to find out what they are up to now and what their activities are.

Some out on bail moved out to start life afresh. Some like the JJMP ultras began exploring new charts for crime for them to survive.

DGP’s directive is breaking grounds

The DGP’s directive to ascertain the post-bail life and activity of the criminal is breaking grounds as little over a week back here in Palamu a former JJMP cadre was found hobnobbing with a robber. The JJMP cadre was shot at by the police in self-defence then.

Conversion of extremists to criminal

Reeshma Ramesan told the press that in the latest conversion of extremist to criminal, our police have caught the area commander of the JJMP identified as Lallan Bhuiyan alias Arjun Singh and recovered an iron-made pistol with 5 live cartridges of 7.65 mm bore.

Lallan’s accomplice Birender has been caught. Both were remanded in judicial custody today.

Lallan and Birender, both 23 years of age, have 4 and 3 cases against them respectively.

Lallan has cases against him under the 17 Criminal Law Amendment Act which is invariably invoked against the Naxals.

Birender has cases against him of loot and theft. Lallan was an operative in the Palamu and Latehar districts while Birender was an operative in just 2 police stations of Palamu- Daltonganj and Satbarwa.

Lallan has been in the JJMP since 2020 and now he is trying to be richer by taking to crimes.

Reeshma Ramesan said Lallan was in the group of criminals who had made an abortive attempt to loot a jewellery shop in Gumla very recently.

Reeshma Ramesan said, “Palamu police caught him and remanded him in jail. We understand Gumla police will take him on police remand.”

Lallan’s temerity is one more. He shot at a health staff of a private hospital and looted his bike.

The SP added, “Once we got him, he told our police as to where he had hidden that looted bike as that looted bike somehow or the other had a breakdown. We called in the Danda police of Garhwa district and they have shown it as seized by them.”

Garhwa police too will have Lallan on police remand.

For Lallan and Birender the new ‘venture’ started on a disastrous note.
