THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

Kolkata, Dec 31: A major crackdown on counterfeit drugs led to the arrest of a woman, the proprietor of a wholesale firm in Kolkata, following a joint operation by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) East Zone and the West Bengal Drugs Control Directorate.

The accused was sent into judicial custody for 14 days by the court, with further interrogation permitted as the investigation continues.

The raid, conducted at the premises of M/s Care and Cure For You, resulted in the seizure of anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, and other suspected counterfeit drugs valued at approximately ₹6.60 crores.

The drugs, labeled as originating from countries such as Ireland, Turkey, the USA, and Bangladesh, lacked documentation to verify their legitimate import into India, raising suspicions about their authenticity.

Additionally, investigators found empty packing materials at the site, further amplifying concerns. Samples of the seized drugs have been sent for quality testing, while the remaining stock is secured in CDSCO custody.

The Ministry of Health has confirmed that the case is under detailed examination to uncover the full extent of the illicit trade.
